Long a rumour but recently actualised, Leeside tradcaths awoke to news that the traditional Latin Rite is to be suppressed per orders from the Bishop’s Palace this week.

A buoyant faith community built up between Saint Mary’s Dominican Priory and Pope’s Quay both in Cork City, despite assurances even as late as last year that the Mass would be protected a new pastoral letter by Bishop Fintan Gavin ended hopes of a Catholic revival around the Latin Rite in the City.

Enabled by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007 and then left the discretion of the local Hierarchy with Francis’s Traditions Custodes, the move runs contrary to an earlier commitment towards protecting the so-called Extraordinary Form of the Mass.

The traditional norm for the celebration of the Eucharist worldwide until 1962, precipitating the creation of the Society of Saint Pius the Xth in revolt against the reforms, some light at the end of the tunnel was opened for traditional Catholics by the promulgation of Summorum Pontificum allowing the hosting of the Latin Rite.

Imperilled recently by rumblings by the Vatican last year, the rite differentiates itself from the novus ordo ceremony by use of Latin language railings and receipt of the Host on the tongue as well as keeping the trappings of the old ritual lost after Vatican 2.

Supposledy on His Excellency’s hit list for some time, Bishop Gavin’s rationale for the move was listed as being part of a modernising drive for the Catholic Church currently shrinking rapidly amid at a rate of 12 priests a year relative to a single ordination.

Potentially putting heat on the remaining Latin Mass venues in Dublin and elsewhere, it is understood that a substantial number of young people had been attracted to both Latin Mass venues in Cork City in recent years.

Those wishing to partake in the Latin Rite at risk of potential schism may opt for the SSPX on Shanakiel Road whose services will continue regardless. Such ecclesiastic foot shootings coupled with two years of pandemic restrictions means the Irish have created for themselves a brand-new Penal era for the Faith to endure against. Regardless, a faith community bearing with it much mustard seeds of religious revival has been left scattered in the Rebel County.

“Imperilled recently by rumblings by the Vatican last year, the rite differentiates itself from the novus ordo ceremony by use of Latin language railings and receipt of the Host on the tongue as well as keeping the trappings of the old ritual lost after Vatican 2” –

That completely misses the critical distinctions between both rites. The Tridentine Rite is focused on the Holy Sacrifice aspect of the Mass and is fundamentally God centred, while the Novus Ordo frames the Mass as a celebratory meal akin to the Protestants and is intrinsically man-centred. Readers may be interested to know that the Novus Ordo’s offertory prayer is taken from the Talmud – which should tell any earnest Catholic all they need to know about the Novus Ordo and its “services.”

Also the SSPX is not in schism so there is no risk of schism by attending their Masses. If anything is schismatic, it is the new religion of the Novus Ordo given that it literally promotes heresy and a Protestantised liturgy.

I think Irish Catholics can be rest assured that going to the SSPX chapel in Cork won’t constitute an act of schism (or on most dioceses in Ireland for that matter. A bishop has to be Catholic to command obedience and no Catholic bishop would be hostile to the TLM under any pretext.

…And that day has finally come when I say something I believed would not
happen in my lifetime ” THIS IS NOT MY POPE ” he or the Vatican,
Rome and it’s Church do not represent Irish Catholics, who more than
any other representation defended their Faith with the utmost sacrifice
    of virtue and life.

Present day Rome has been infiltrated with many the enemies of GOD
and man. They have failed to clean out their Temples and they are
exposed for what they really are…maybe we are witnessing something
much greater in our lives and it’s time to rebuild Our Own Catholic Eire.

  5. All through our history, the Vatican has never understood, never appreciated and never supported Irish Catholics, although it made good use of them. Never have a people been more faithful to a Church that was so faithless to them.

  6. the Irish church suffers from many different problems, and these libtard bishops are a large part of the problem, But there are a few of them that are on our side such as Bishop Cullinan and a few others, some would come to our side only for they are surrounded by libtards and keep their solid teaching and faith to themselves, the rest are cowardly or are libs, thats plain truth, this can also apply to many of the priests, there two archbishops but both seem to be liberals, I dont know why they continue following liberalism when it clearly does not work, political zealots like these are a large problem in the church, They try to impose an agenda where there isnt any need for one, They try to make the church conform to their Temporal power games,It makes one Wonder what were they Teaching in the seminaries that has turned them all into Retards,
The SSPX seem to have the head on their shoulders but the problem with them is the poor effort to expand in this country, there is plenty of potential and they have no shortage of money if you look at their recent Projects in America and in Italy, They built a Cathedral in the plains and bought an old Convent in Northern Italy, and i heard that a good lot attend their masses here, so there is a way to come back from the current damage, which is just going to continue for another 10 year at most before fading away
